2. How does the dashboard work?

Updated om

TEC for end users

When you log in you always start on the “Dashboard.” Below you can see what the dashboard looks like:

General items on the dashboard:

1. The Leiden University logo: clicking here will return you to the home screen (the dashboard).
2. Notifications (bell logo): if you have received notifications, it is indicated here with a number. If you click on it you will see the notifications.
3. NL | EN: here you can choose whether you want to use TEC in Dutch or English. FB-SOZ and the FFB staff manage the texts in Dutch and English. If no English text is defined, then - even if you click EN - the Dutch text will be displayed.
4. Search function: with this function you can search within TEC. It can happen that there are many hits, e.g. for the keyword 'English'. For a better overview you can scroll through the displayed results or use a limiting factor at 'All Types'.
5. Advanced Search: enter a limiting factor in 1 or more lines and click on “Search”.
6. Logged in person/you (user/profile picture): here you can view your own data and change basic settings.
7. Menus: here you can click through to your dashboard, to the screen faculties or change years.
8. Footer TEC: here is information about the current version of TEC; a link to the TimeEdit manuals; and the TimeEdit website itself.
9. The “i” logo: here is information about this screen.

Example dashboard of an (end) user:

In the image below, we see an example of a user with open tasks and assigned roles:

1. Dashboard: click "dashboard" to return to the dashboard from another screen.
2. General announcements: general announcements are listed here. These are visible to everyone within the university (with an account in TEC).
3. Your roles: here are the roles assigned to your TEC account.
4. Open tasks: here are the tasks currently open to you, grouped by task type. Clicking on a task opens the workflow in which you can perform the task. After you complete the task, it disappears from your task list.

For more explanation of how tasks work, see the guide: 'How do I handle a task'?

5. Years: you can open a drop-down menu here. You will then see all the years available in TEC. Years with a lock are closed and can no longer be edited, but can still be viewed. The year with the asterisk is the year that is currently the 'current' year in TEC. This need not be the actual current year (but often is). There are also years with no further indication. These years are not the current year, but can be edited.
6. Faculties: pressing this will take you to another screen where you can see information per faculty. Here you can click through the faculties and see, among other things, the structure of the various courses, see which instructor is attached to which course, who is the faculty functional manager. This is all read-only. Changing data if you have permissions to do so is done through the established processes and worfklows in TEC within a certain time frame.
